Artica Writings
Artica Writings is a collection of essays on the theme of oceans, inspired by the UN’s Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development commissioned by Artica Svalbard.
The book is singer sewn and printed on recycled paper in two spot colours that reflect the frigid waters of the Arctic. It features a dust jacket that is made from plastic recovered from the Andaman Sea.
The text gets bolder, or darker, progressively down the page to mimic the ocean getting darker with depth. This was done through the use of variable fonts and JavaScript.
Titles are set in Legacy Vulture, by Norwegian foundry The Pyte Foundry. The text is set in Capraia Variable by Cast Foundry.
